Research Methods in Sport
Dr. Rockey's research course helped grad students further develop critical thinking skills, assist in making evidence-based decisions and solving problems, enhance communication skills, and become research-literate individuals. These research-based tools and skills can be applied within the realm of sports and in various academic, professional, and personal endeavors.
Student-Athlete Development
A prominent ethical issue within intercollegiate athletics is finding the right balance between academics and athletics. While NCAA’s mission is “to be an integral part of higher education and to focus on the development of our student-athletes,” many coaches and administrators lose sight of this aspect due to intercollegiate athletics’ natural competitive atmosphere. As a former collegiate student-athlete and coach, researching how college athletics impacts individuals has become a great interest. Within this course, my research proposal surrounded the concerns of student-athlete development programming and support, and it's potential impact on life after sports.
